Illinois State senate District 6 - Nick Uniejewski

As many of you may have gleaned from the Girl I Guess guide, Nick is bringing clear future focused progressive vision on housing, transit, education, healthcare, water and energy infrastructure, reforming our elections including rank choice voting, and public funding for campaigns, and expanding funding and oversight for community-led violence interruption programs.

Nick’s background as a community organizer fighting for progressive causes, and his tireless gras-roots campaigning, knocking on 80,000+ doors in the heat of the summer and freezing winter weather, crisscrossing the district on his bicycle, shows that he is not going to waste a minute of his time in Springfield, or play party machine politics.

Enter 30-plus-year Springfield establishment incumbent, State Senator Feigenholtz. Since her well documented anti-Muslim hate speech became public, we learned that it didn’t preclude her from being not only platformed but protected by other elected officials who represent 44th ward (more on that later), local community organizations, including local Indivisible chapter, and the larger billionaire funded party machine. Any attempt to bring up her hate speech would get shut down, concerns dismissed and at times, aggressively rebuffed. Our sense was that she is not to be addressed directly or held accountable in any way.

Let’s be clear, no one here is afraid of Sara Feigenholtz. What’s scary and frankly, embarrassing, is that it took Girl I Guess guide to bring forward the disclosure of her OTHER BIGOTRY. This time, anti-LGBTQ, specifically anti-trans, and just reported nasty behavior towards vulnerable humans. Our question remains, do we really think that hate and bigotry can be contained, limited to only one group of people? And are we ok with that?
